Movie Review | 3 lessons to learn from Skinny Girl In Transit S4E10: Liars Perish

Hi guys! Long time no movie review; today I’ll be sharing some lessons I learnt from SGIT S4E10: Liars Perish (OF COURSE THEY DO!)

Image: My face when Tiwa was crying. 😂

If you do not watch SGIT (Skinny Girl In Transit), (What have you been watching?!) SGIT is a web series produced by Ndani TV, and as the name implies, it is a comedy about a young Nigerian woman and her efforts to lose weight, according to Wikipedia  but of course it’s so much more than that.

Now, for those of us that watch SGIT (hi5 sisters and brothers) I waited for at least 3days before posting this because I didn’t want to spoil it for y’all. But if you still haven’t seen the last episode. I’m sorry, I tried. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Let’s dive right in.

So the episode starts of course where we left off in episode 9, where Tiwa’s Nemesis, Fabrrice (in Bisola Ayeola’s voice) calls our Mide (OUR, because everybody loves Mide) in Tiwa’s presence. And trust Tiwa, she was shaking like Jelly fish because, “There is no peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.” (Isaiah 48:22)

And then the episode ends with a mad revelation.

DRUMROLLLSSS

Tiwa finally confesses that she had a thing with Fabrice in the past and that he kissed her (in the present), stating emphatically that she didn’t kiss him back (which is another LIE 🙄). The worst part is Tiwa did not confess because she finally decided to wear the white hat, she confessed because someone else (Derin) in Mide’s life knew about the kiss. Sigh.

The bitter end was that Mide actually had a surprise for her in his pocket; you know that thing her mum always wanted? That thing her mum fasted and prayed all the time for? Yes that thing. That round thing that is worn in the middle finger. Yes. Yes. That one. But the confession ruined everything because it came too late and Tiwas was deceptive.

Here are three lessons to learn from this episode:

  1. Come to terms with your past, Stop allowing your past haunt you. Everyone has a past before we come to Christ; For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard (Romans 3:23). But Jesus came and died for US ALL, so that our past is gone and the slate is wiped clean. Yes you had sex with someo you’re not proud of, yes you aborted, yes you smoked, yes you masturbated. So what? Christ doesn’t even remember anymore “Love keeps no record of wrongs” (1Cor 13:5). If your past still haunts you, I’m telling you that everything you have been or done before Christ is gone. Pooof! You are clean, you are Holy, and you are Righteous. Yes, You are a SAINT because of Jesus. Stop allowing your past haunt you, no amount of prayer and fasting will take your past away, it is your past, IT IS GONE. LEAVE IT THERE. Don’t be like Tiwa she allowed her past haunt her right from the beginning of the season, (I was so pissed!) all she had to do was tell Mide about Fabrice. How hard was that? But she kept pretending because she had portrayed herself as this “good” person.
  2. Don’t deceive yourself, JUST STOP IT. A lot of Christians are still doing things they don’t want to do because we let the devil get to us with that subtle voice (like Fabrice’s voice!!!!) telling them how they are missing from not doing all those things they used to do or even telling them to keep doing that thing they know is wrong and instead of RESISTING we listen till we let him get to us. (…Resist the devil, and he will flee from you James 4:7) Most of the time we know we are not capable of holding ourselves but we deceive ourselves and still hang around those friends that are bad influences, we still watch movies that make us feel some type of way, we still go to places that we know are not edifying us. If you know you’re not strong enough to say No to sex, for example, you shouldn’t be going to your partner’s (or your ex/crush’s) house. When next the devil calls your number, don’t run back to those things he wants you to do (LIKE TIWA WENT TO THE RESTAURANT TO SEE FABRICE) tell him “I know I was unworthy because of what I did, but Christ had wiped the slate clean, So, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2Cor 5:17)
  3. Fasting won’t give you a husband or teach you common sense, The thing that hurt me the most about the whole turn out of the event was the fact that her mother was constantly praying and fasting and getting MOGs (Men Of God) to pray for her, but Tiwa basically wasted her mother’s prayers. A lot of people are praying what they should be DOING. Fasting and prayer won’t give you a husband, it may only help you choose right and hear clearly from God, neither will fasting teach you common sense and give you home training. That’s why we were given brains to think with. Fasting and Prayer won’t help much if you don’t do the right thing. You can’t be out here praying and fasting your head off but not still living right and living a lie. This reminds me of my favorite maxim of equity, no I’m not a lawyer but I did company/business law at one point in Uni. “He that comes to Equity must come with clean hands”

I can’t wait for episode 11. 😊
